First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, 12-31-17

by Martha Pennell,

Fellowship dinner of the congregations will be held Sunday, January 7th, at 4 pm at Saint Paul’s Lutheran church. Debbie and John Traub host.

All men are invited and welcome to attend the men’s fellowship breakfast at Valley Alliance Church, Rte. 6 east of Gaines on Saturday, January 13th, at 8 am.

Birthdays and anniversaries in the congregations were recognized during worship.

A hymn-sing during worship heralded the arrival of a new year.

Preceding the sacrament of communion, Pastor Tom gave thanks for God’s mighty acts of creation, reminding us what a beautiful world it is.

He recalled Christ’s work of redemption; his teaching ministry of illustration, forgiveness, love, and grace. We should proclaim his life, death, and resurrection until he comes again, and seek the action of the Holy Spirit in our lives through its gifts of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control.

The voice of Jesus is the voice over darkness. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness shall never overcome it. The light is Jesus!

From our unison prayer: Almighty God, you have shed upon us the new light of your eternal word in Jesus Christ. As this New Year 2018 begins, may the light of Jesus shine forth in our lives. Help us share the divine light of Jesus who came to share our humanity. May his light shine out from our lives and our congregation. Let us be employed for you.

We freely and heartily yield all things for your pleasure and disposal. Glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we are yours and you are ours. We are glad to make covenant with you to be your people. Amen.
