Red Cross Providing Free Smoke Alarms By Appointment

WHAT Installation of free smoke alarms and education of local residents on the importance of having and practicing home fire escape plans

WHEN Alarms can be requested through July 31 by calling 814-817-4043

WHERE Potter County

WHO Potter County Residents

WHY To help reduce the number of home fire related deaths and injuries

The American Red Cross, in an effort to educate Potter County residents on the importance of fire safety, is providing free smoke alarms by appointment to county residents. Those wishing to have smoke alarms installed need to call 814-817-4043 no later than July 31 to schedule an appointment. Red Cross volunteers will come to your home to install alarms as needed, and will also provide residents with important fire safety information. Appointments will fill quickly, so people are urged to request their alarm installation soon rather than later.

“Seven times each day someone dies in a home fire,” noted Jason Bange, Red Cross Northwestern Pennsylvania Disaster Program Manager. “Having a working smoke alarm and a home fire escape plan that you and your family have practiced can give you the time required to escape safely should the need arise.”

The Red Cross Home Fire Campaign is part of the American Red Cross Prepare Western PA Initiative that strives to build more resilient communities that are better prepared to respond to and recover from emergency situations.

Spectators are welcome to watch the fish being weighed for the tournament.

For more information, call the Hills Creek State Park office at 570-724-4246 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
