Nearly 10,000 Attend 2017 Annual Woodsmen Show At Cherry Springs State Park
By Henry Lush
The Galeton Rotary Club's major annual fundraiser, The Annual Woodsmen's Show was held last weekend, August 4-5-6.
This was the 66th annual show. Over the past 66 years the profits generated by this event has benefited Galeton and Potter county in many ways. Several hundreds of thousands of dollars have been contributed to scholarships, many school projects such as the building of the high school tennis courts, the outdoor basketball court, new school sidewalks, band uniforms, refurbishing the community building, the new library, the Collins Memorial Park, plus many other worthwhile activities throughout the area.
The Woodsmen's Show is the second most popular tourist attraction in Potter County. The Cherry Springs Dark Skies program generates the most tourist inquiries. This year nearly 10,000 attended the 3 day show. This, of course, is a boost to the local economy. The various competitions are noted nationally and the winners were all announced in the press.
Plans will start soon to prepare for the 67th show. Galeton Rotary is planning to make the show even bigger and better. This is an amazing undertaking for a club the size of Galeton Rotary with a membership of 18. It really takes a lot of effort by many dedicated members.

State Reports Increase in Lyme Cases
Headline Harrisburg

The latest news from the State Capitol
|
|
Locally, Clearfield County reported 348 cases and Elk County 113 cases. Each county in the Commonwealth is confirmed to have a high risk of Lyme. Legislatively, the House passed House Bill 174, which would require health insurers to cover treatment plans for Lyme disease or related tick-borne illnesses as prescribed by a patient’s health care practitioner, regardless if the treatment plan includes short-term or long-term antibiotic treatment. The bill is now with the Senate. The best prevention against Lyme and other tickborne illnesses is to avoid tick-infested habitats, such as areas dense with shrubbery or tall grass. Proper use of personal protective measures such as repellents and protective clothing, and checking for and removing attached ticks are also important deterrents to tick-related complications. Other prevention tips are available for viewing by clicking here. |
