Article for Big Brothers Big Sisters-- seven year Kane match

The Guidance Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Program would like to recognize Big Sister Brandy Schimp and Little Sister Ciara Wittenburg for reaching their seven-year match anniversary. Some of their favorite activities over the years have included going boating and tubing at Kinzua Reservoir, movie nights at the Kane Family Drive In, and planting flowers at Brandy’s house every Memorial Day. During their anniversary meeting, the match reminisced about their very first outing when they went roller-skating at Corbin’s Temple, and all the good talks they’ve had over dinner at Roma Gardens.

Brandy and Ciara love to give back to the community and have in the past sent Christmas cards and care packages to overseas military personnel, made Christmas cookie care packages for friends and family, and participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters annual fundraiser, Bowl for Kids Sake, every year since they met.

Ciara and her mother, Sabrina Wittenburg, are appreciative of the strong bond and friendship the pair has formed. Brandy has been by Ciara’s side through many milestones in her life, such as going to her first snowball dance and prom, learning to drive, getting her first job, and most recently, turning eighteen. Ciara will graduate from Kane High School this year, and she has transformed from the shy, quiet girl Brandy first met, to a confident young adult.
