Coudersport Rotary News

Josh Roth, the Site Administrator of the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum spoke before the Coudersport Rotary at their February 12, 2018 meeting.

The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum was closed for a 5.6 million dollar renovation from 2012-2015. Josh Roth, from York County, with a background in history, archaeology, and mu-seums started as Site Administrator in June 2015. “I can’t take credit for the building when people marvel over it,” he said.

The idea of the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum was first conceived with the 1960s; the result of a collaboration between the Penn-York Lumberman’s Club and the PA Historical and Museum Commission to educate the public about the rich lumbering history of the Common-wealth.
In the new 2015 exhibit, visitors can choose where to begin their experience. A central lobby leads to radial galleries, each highlighting a different era of the history of Pennsylvania’s forests and lumber industry. The museum includes tactile interaction, simulated actions and experiences, digital photograph and video screens and drawer exhibit cases, and “leave your mark” exhibits where one designs a log stamp or shares your ideas and tells your story.
Josh spoke about expanding the ways the public can experience the museum such as outreach events, evening programs, and educational groups sponsored by local businesses. Josh said the new visitor center also provides a very reasonably priced community ‘space’ available for educational presentations, weddings and other family based events, and organizational and group meetings.

Thank you Josh Roth for your very interesting and informational presentation before the Coudersport Rotary Club!
