Update from Steuben County Emergency Management:

Approximately 5,600 electric customers across Steuben County remain without power, with NYSEG reporting it expects to restore power to 90 percent of their 4,100 customers by 11:45 p.m. Saturday, according to county officials. NYSEG also has provided dry ice and bottled water at the Hornell City Fire Department.

County Emergency Management Deputy Director Ken Forenz reported all county roads are now open, although motorists are advised to be on the lookout for falling branches or low, loose power lines.

In addition, the Red Cross shelters; Canisteo Greenwood High School and Prattsburgh Fire Department will remain open overnight and the sheriff’s office will continue to provide transportation to one of the centers if an individual has no other transportation. In addition, McLane Center at Alfred University will provide shelter.

Steuben officials also urge residents to clear furnaces and hot water tank vent pipes of snow, and to keep generators, gas grills and similar appliance in well-vented areas. Residents also should clear out the areas near fire hydrants in order to allow fire departments easy visibility and access to the hydrants in case of a fire.
