Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2018

The Guidance Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Program would like to thank the businesses and individuals who helped with Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2018. Bowl For Kids’ Sake, our largest annual fundraiser, took place on April 7, 2018 at Byllye Lanes in Bradford. 100 % of the funds raised at this event will support recruitment of mentors for McKean County youth. Long-term studies show that children who have another caring adult in their life, such as a mentor, are much less likely to get involved in problem behaviors while also improving school attendance and academic performance, and supporting better relationships with family members and peers.

A total of one hundred sixty-five bowlers attended this year’s event. With individual bowler donations and business sponsorships, Bowl For Kids’ Sake raised a total gross amount of $16,518. Domino’s of Bradford and Costa’s Supermarket of Smethport were the event’s major food sponsors. Individual bowlers brought in $9,584 while business sponsors donated an additional $6,934. Kids and Cancer once again sponsored a lane for Littles waiting for a mentor to attend the event.

Each individual bowler was encouraged to raise a minimum of $50. Staff and children involved with the McKean County Department of Human Services Independent Living program raised over $900 of the total amount raised by bowlers. The individual bowlers that raised the most money were 1st place, Big Sister Betsy Wile, 2nd place, Lynette Beatty of the Nittany Minit Mart team, and 3rd place, Tracy Gilmore. Those bowlers raising the most money received prize packages containing Buffalo Bisons Baseball tickets, Erie Zoo Tickets, Wal-Mart gift card, State College Spikes Baseball tickets and Stainless Steel Drink Cooler set. Every participant enjoyed two free bowling games, shoe rental, free food and refreshments, and chances to win gift baskets.

This year’s event sponsors included: Champion Sponsors Fraternal Order of Eagles #307 and Sheetz Family Charities; Perfect game sponsors WESB News Radio, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, The Kane Vets Home Association, Northwest Savings Bank, and American Refining Group. Strike sponsors included Domino’s, International Waxes, Kane Lions Club and Zook Motors. Spare sponsors included the American Legion Post #108, Asel Enterprises, Burns and Burns Associates, Costa’s Supermarket, Country Fair, Dairy Queen, Fraternal Order of Eagles #2432 and Eagles Auxiliary, Hamlin Bank and Trust Co., Juniata Valley Bank, Kids and Cancer, Kiwanis Club of Bradford, KOS, Inc., Rotary Club of Smethport, Southern Air Express, WHKS Port Allegany, and W.E. Swanson Agency, Inc.

Thank you to all of the businesses who supported this years Bowl For Kids Sake event by being lane sponsors or donating prizes, banners, advertisement, or supplies. Thanks also to our devoted volunteer mentors, parents, Guidance Center program staff, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Task Force members who donated their time to help make this year’s event a success.
