Busy Summer at the Cameron County Historical Society Planned

First things first. There are only two days left to sign up for our "Historical Scavenger Hunt" at the Chamber of Commerce. The deadline is Thursday May 31st. Hurry and stop by for all the details this month long event that anyone can participate and learn some fantastic history about your county.

The Little Museum in Sterling Run opened this past week-end honoring Memorial Day and will be open every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 PM until October. Thanks to an amazing grant from the Emporium Foundation we now offer an air conditioned environment for our visitors comfort along with new lighting for all our rooms and displays. It's a great way to spend an afternoon.

Plus History Center on Greenwood Street in Emporium is still open year around every Tuesday from 10 AM to 12:30PM and by appointment for those of you who want to dig deeper into our counties history or your own family roots. We are well staffed with local historians and genealogists that can guide you on your way.

Back by popular demand is the reprint the most sought after book "Story of the Sinnamahone." by William Huntley Jr. The book was written to record the unwritten history of the old white pine days on the Sinnamahoning from 1865-1885, when white pine lumbering was at its best. Over one hundred fifty people were interviewed ranging from the age of 70-95. The softbound book now offers a index referencing all the surnames so you can quickly find those folks of the past and their stories they just had to tell.

You can obtain one by sending a donation for $35 to the “Cameron County Historical Society," P O Box 433, Emporium, Pa. 15834. Please include your full address and phone number with your order. Don’t miss this opportunity final acceptance date of orders is the end of June. Delivery date from publisher should be mid July. We will ship anywhere in the US for an additional $5 per book.

Our number one goal is preserving history for others to enjoy for many years to come!
