The Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center will present “The Good Old Summertime” on June 9, 2018. This one-day, family-friendly event will feature live music, food, a display of classic cars, and activities for kids including face painting, balloon animals, and sidewalk chalk art. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

“The Good Old Summertime recreates the old fashioned community picnics and fairs of Marilyn Horne’s childhood.” Said Matthew Hileman, museum manager. “Marilyn Horne Hall was created as a community link between the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and the region. This event gives us an opportunity to offer a quality family event to the people of McKean County and the surrounding areas while bringing awareness to the extraordinary career of Marilyn Horne.”

Legendary opera singer Marilyn Horne added, “I hope it’s a rip roaring success! Wish I could be there.”

As part of the event, the Bradford Landmark Society will be hosting a bake sale to support the Society. Pitt-Bradford Arts is sponsoring the kids’ activity area, “Kaleidoscope Korner”, named after the Pitt-Bradford Arts Programming children’s theater series, Kaleidoscope. The event will also include old fashioned fair foods from popcorn and cotton candy to fresh grilled hot dogs and a craft soda wagon featuring sodas poured from barrels on a covered wagon.

The centerpiece of the event will be the Monumental Brass Quintet who will be performing ragtime jazz and other early 20th-century American music. Monumental Brass is a Washington D.C. area-based group that has performed at museums and concert halls around the nation. Performances will take place intermittently throughout the day.

Rounding out the event will be a display of antique and classic cars organized by Gary Hoy, President of the Street Dreams Car Club of Bradford, Pennsylvania. Hoy, a longtime car enthusiast and collector has been working with collectors from around Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania to assemble a unique selection of about eight collectible automobiles.

A vendor fair will take place inside Marilyn Horne Hall while the food and other festivities will take place outdoors in the building’s parking area. “The Good Old Summertime” is from Noon until 6 p.m., June 9, 2018. Marilyn Horne Hall is located at 2 Marilyn Horne Way, Bradford, Pennsylvania. More information can be found at
