Support for Our Emergency Responders

This Wednesday, June 6, a news conference will be held in Harrisburg to update progress on these two much-needed pieces of legislation:

House Bill 699 - Would increase the reimbursement rates for services provided by both ground and air ambulance companies. It has been 14 years since the last increase in reimbursement for transporting individuals covered by Medicaid. Before that, 25 years had passed since an increase in the rate of reimbursement.

House Bill 1013 - Would require emergency medical services agencies be reimbursed for services provided even if transport to a hospital does not take place. Current law allows EMS agencies to be reimbursed for a covered claim only if they transport the patient to a hospital. Should the patient refuse transport for whatever reason, no reimbursement takes place.

You can watch the event on Rep. Gabler’s website, www.RepGabler.com, beginning at 10 a.m.

Preserving Our Forests

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) will soon begin a series of hearings across the state as part of their desire for involving the public in charting the future course of Pennsylvania’s state forests.

The Elk State Forest will be the subject of a meeting to be held Wednesday, June 13, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Elk State Forest Resource Management Center, 258 Sizerville Road, Emporium.

“This district planning revision process provides a great opportunity for the public to learn more about their local state forest and to get involved in district state forest management priorities,” said DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn. “I invite our state forest visitors to take advantage of this opportunity, and make their feelings known.”

West Nile Virus Confirmed

Pennsylvania’s first confirmed case of a mosquito testing positive for West Nile Virus in 2018 has occurred in York County. According to the state Department of Environmental Protection, the sample was collected May 16.

The best defense against the West Nile Virus is not giving them a place to breed.
