News from the Coudersport Rotary

On Monday, August 20, 2018. Coudersport Rotary member Ronnie Schenkein was pleased to host Ed McCrea as the speaker at our weekly luncheon. Ed McCrea is the founder and President of Environmental and Conservation Global. He grew up in Western Pennsylvania and created EECG in 2001. In 2008 he moved to Coudersport and pursues his international work from here.

EECG is a small nonprofit organization that works internationally in some 10 to 15 countries depending on need and funding. Ed created the association to promote education as a tool that can help conserve and enhance the earth’s biological diversity. The organization employs a unique combination of education, social marketing, and communication strategies, to achieve its goals. He felt that better behaviors lead to better environmental conversation programs.

One project Ed is working with is Peace for Conservation, Ltd, a Tanzanian conservation and social non-government organization working to provide a structured support program for disabled individuals in the Busega District adjoining Serengeti National Park.

A US nonprofit organization, Joni and Friends, has agreed to donate 100 wheelchairs if EECG will cover the costs of shipping the chairs to Tanzania from the United States. $7720 is required to cover shipping and set up for the program the first year.

Training for the wheelchair recipients will enable them to become employed and help support their families. It will also encourage them to become Ambassadors for Wildlife with their families and fellow villagers. For more information contact Ed McCrea at emccrea@eecg.org or donate to their GoFundMe page www.gofundme.com/the-tanzania-wheelchair-project

Thank you, Ed, for coming to speak before Coudersport Rotary on this worthy and interesting organization and project!
