Coudersport Public Library Prepares For ‘Books Unlimited’ Gala

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the “Books Unlimited” Gala, the major annual fundraiser for Coudersport Public Library. Tickets are now available at the library for this year’s event, scheduled for Friday evening, Nov. 9 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at St. Eulalia Parish Center in Coudersport.

“Local support generated by this event is vital to operations, as the library exists on a combination of state subsidy, county and local government support, public donations and a substantial amount of fundraising,” remarked Teri McDowell, library director. “Proceeds from Books Unlimited make up a significant percentage of our annual budget; they help keep the doors open, the utilities on and new books and other materials coming in.”

More than 300 items and services were awarded during the Live and Silent auctions and raffles at last year’s event. This year’s offerings promise to be just as numerous and varied. Pro sports items to be featured include tickets to two Buffalo Bills games, as well as Buffalo Sabres vs. Pittsburgh Penguins and Sabres vs. Flyers, signed memorabilia and more. A wide variety of antique and new items donated by local residents and businesses will also be featured, along with gift baskets and gift certificates for local restaurants and services.

Tickets cost $30, and are now available at the library while supplies last. This event has sold out in the past, so those who plan to attend are urged to get their tickets early. Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. with the auction preview, bidding on silent and bag auction items and special raffles. A buffet of heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served prior to the beginning of the live auction.

Donations of new and antique items and services, as well as monetary contributions, are still being accepted, but should be received at the Library by Friday, Oct. 26, to be acknowledged in the program booklet. Items may be dropped off at the library, or call the library at 274-9382 to arrange for pickup.
