For Love of God and Country Concert by Wellsboro Women's Chorus and Wednesday Morning Musicales is Sunday, Nov. 4

Members of the Wednesday Morning Musicales rehearse for their upcoming "For Love of God and Country" concert on Sunday, Nov. 4 at the United Methodist Church of Wellsboro.
Sunday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m., the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus and the Wednesday Morning Musicales will present a concert titled “For Love of God and Country.” Inspirational and patriotic songs will be sung in celebration of Veterans Day being observed on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The concert will be at the United Methodist Church at 36 Main Street in Wellsboro. It will open with the audience and choruses singing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Veterans and present-day military men and women are invited to attend and wear their uniforms or something that represents their armed service branch. A dessert social will follow at the church. The concert and dessert social are open to the public.

The 30 members of the Wellsboro Women's Chorus will perform under the direction of Suzanne Niles and Diana Frazier with accompaniment by Judy Smithgall. They will sing "How Can I Keep From Singing," "Blessings," "The Prayer," "Bless the Lord," "Then Sings My Soul," "Praise His Holy Name," "My America," "This Is America," and "Thank You, Soldiers."

The 30-member Wednesday Morning Musicales directed by Diana Frazier with Marian Miller as the accompanist will open with "Land of the Free," "Homeward Bound," "Anthem," "Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones, "We Won’t Give Up," and "Stand with the Brave" with Ken Means playing the French horn.

The concert will conclude with the two choruses singing "A Tribute to the Armed Services" arranged by Lloyd Larson and "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin and arranged by Joseph M. Martin.

“All veterans and men and women currently serving in the military are invited as we would be proud to honor them at this special concert," Frazier said. "

There is no admission fee for the concert; a free will offering will be taken.

The choruses welcome new members. The Wellsboro Women’s Chorus rehearses Thursday nights at the Deane Center and the Wednesday Morning Musicales on Wednesday mornings at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center, both in Wellsboro. Anyone who has a desire to sing and would like to join either of these groups is asked to contact Diana Frazier at 570-439-0923.
