Elder Law Day Held In Bradford; Second to Take Place November 19th in Kane

The Bradford Senior Center hosted the first of two Elder Law Day events that will be held in McKean County this year.

The event was held on November 7 at the Center on Campus Drive in Bradford. The event was sponsored by the McKean County District Attorney's Office, the McKean County Collaborative Board, the Office of the Attorney General and the LINK to Aging and Disabilities.

The event was coordinated by District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer and Department of Human Services Director Lee Sizemore to address scams that target the elderly and estate planning.

The event was well-attended.

The speakers included Senior Supervisory Special Agent Alan McGill who gave a presentation on scams that target the elderly with some tips to avoid being a victim; attorney Anthony Clarke who talked about wills, living wills and powers of attorney; and Paula Fritz Eddy who talked about ways that people can leave a charitable legacy.

The next event will be held on Monday, November 19 at the Kane Senior Center at 100 Fraley Street in Kane. Speakers will also include attorney Erik Ross who will talk about estate planning.
