First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 12-30-18

by Martha Pennell,

There will be no Shared Ministry Fellowship dinner in January.

A Shared Ministry combined service with special music recognized the retirement of Pastors Tom and Roger.

Each shared two favorite scriptures.

Pastor Roger noted his parents each had a “life’s verse” as a guide to life. His mother’s was Proverbs 3: 5-6, and it became his favorite. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

His second favorite scripture is Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Pastor Tom’s first choice of scripture is Matthew 25: 31-40, “When the Son of Man comes in His glory…you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in…then the righteous will answer Him saying, Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink, or see you a stranger and take you in…and the King will answer, ‘I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Pastor Tom’s second choice of scripture is Acts 3: 1-10. Peter and John went to the temple and a lame man there begged them to do something. Peter commanded, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” The man entered the temple with them walking, leaping, and praising God. Pastor Tom told us to reach out, offer Jesus, and celebrate life and God’s goodness with others.

I enjoyed reading the pastors' favorite verses. Great choices. Thanks for sharing, Martha.
