Man who set off Amber Alert returned to Genesee and jailed on stolen vehicle charges

Guillermo J. Torres-Acevedo
The Daily News

BATAVIA - A Batavia man who set off a statewide Amber Alert when he left the area with a 14-year-old Byron girl has been extradited and charged with stealing a car that he used to drive the girl to Pennsylvania, Genesee County sheriff’s deputies said.

Guillermo J. Torres-Acevedo, 22, of College View, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He allegedly took the car from College View Drive about 9 a.m. Nov. 29, about an hour after picking the girl up at Byron-Bergen High School in a different vehicle.

The incident led to an Amber Alert and a statewide search for the two. Read more...
