Thank you….

….to everyone who had a hand in putting together last Friday’s “Welcome Home” event at DuBois Central Catholic.

While I will never forget my deployment to the Middle East, I will always cherish the greeting I received at my alma mater.

Thanks to my friend and legislative “neighbor,” Rep. Tommy Sankey, as well as Pennsylvania State House Speaker Mike Turzai, for their kind words.

It’s good to be home, and it’s good to call this place home.

On the Road Again

Preliminary work on replacement of the Route 255 bridge over Silver Run just northwest of St. Marys will begin next week.

Crews will start by preparing the area for various utility relocations that are expected to last through May. Traffic may be controlled by single lane closures and flaggers on an intermittent basis.

The existing bridge will be demolished in June and replaced with a new precast box culvert. The project is expected to be completed in early October.

Attention Veterans

The new year is a good time for veterans to review their benefits with a professional to ensure they are receiving all they have earned through their service and sacrifice.

This month, a representative from the Pennsylvania American Legion will visit my DuBois district office on Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is a great opportunity for the men and women who serve or have served our country to check out programs and benefits that may be available to them.

You do not need to be an American Legion member to take advantage of this service.

Slow Down to Get Around Law Now in Effect

An expansion of the state law designed to protect roadside workers is now in effect in Pennsylvania.

Act 83 of 2018 adds trash haulers to the list of vehicles, including stationary tow trucks, mail delivery vans and other vehicles involved in performing a roadside service, to those for which a driver must slow down when passing.

Drivers are required to move at least one lane away when possible or slow down and be ready to stop if they cannot.

This law is in addition to the “Steer Clear” law requiring drivers to move over when approaching an emergency response scene.

Road Trip!

I enjoyed meeting Tuesday in Harrisburg with these students from Johnsonburg Area High School.

If you are planning a trip to the state Capitol, please contact my district office and let us arrange a tour for you.

Way to go Abri!

Abri Assalone owns the month of December in the 2019 Office of Attorney General Drug-Free Calendar.

Abri, a fifth-grade student at South Saint Marys Elementary School, submitted this entry to the calendar contest last October and the draw

It’s About Jobs

The workforce development board Workforce Solutions-Business and Education Connect has received a more than $164,000 grant to connect businesses and schools to provide students with job training and development.

The Business-Education Partnership awards, which are federally funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act, increase awareness of in-demand technical careers for students, parents, guardians, teachers, and school faculty.

Pennsylvania Seedling Sales Begin

If you’re interested in purchasing seedlings to grow wildlife food and cover, watershed protection, soil-erosion control, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has what you’re looking for.

Please click here for more information on the program, which began last Tuesday, Jan. 7.
