National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

January 9, 2019 is nationally recognized as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. The day was set aside to allow us to recognize the sacrifices that members of law enforcement make every day.

In McKean County, we are fortunate to have officers who repeatedly respond to calls that can turn violent in a split second. Each call they take has the potential to become a matter of life and death. It is our privilege to know and work with them. Each shift represents time lost with their families so that the rest of us are protected. The violence they see and the violence that is often directed at them are often reported in the media but the reality is hard to imagine.

The legacies of Patrolman Steven Jerman and Sergeant David Distrola continue to live on and their names revered. The heroes are easily recognized as they are the ones who run toward danger and we are forever indebted to them for that.

Today we remember and honor Patrolman Jerman, Sergeant Distrola and all law enforcement officers across the county and McKean County- Bradford City Police, Bradford Township Police, Foster Township Police, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Police, Otto Eldred Regional Police, Smethport Borough Police, Port Allegany Police, Kane Borough Police, Sheriff's Department, Game Commission, Pennsylvania State Police, McKean County Detectives' Bureau, McKean County Drug Task Force, McKean County 911, FCI-McKean, McKean County Jail, McKean County Juvenile and Adult Probation, State Parole and family members of our law enforcement.

And thanks to our elected leaders, the staff at FCI McKean are working without knowing when we'll receive our next paychecks.
