State Tells UPMC To Keep Its Network Open To Highmark, Other Plans

Kaiser Health News

Pennsylvania's attorney general picked a side in the long-running market battle between UPMC and Highmark Health, filing a court petition Thursday seeking to require UPMC to fairly negotiate with Highmark and other health plans.

Democratic Attorney General Josh Shapiro argued that UPMC has violated its charitable obligations to the state, and he wants the Commonwealth Court to enable open and affordable access to UPMC's provider network through negotiated contracts; require baseball-style arbitration if negotiations fail; and bar UPMC from engaging in excessive and unreasonable billing practices.

Aka stop your dam monopoly that robs working folks under the false premise of being a non profit hospital that only accepts its own insurance plan ( which is unaffordable even for the employees that work for your system).

Lots of secret liberals out there I guess....healthcare is a privilege, not a right. GO TRUMP!!

When you die from lack of healthcare or your child dies from it I'm sure you will be very happy to Thank Trump. Health care is one of the most basis of all right. The rest of the world gets it and does it for 2/3 less cost than America does and has better results. We don't have it because of Republicans and their willingness to let someone die from a preventable or easily cured disease and their all around bad feelings towards their fellow Americans

And even bigger issue is that if you’re employed by UPMC it is the only health plan that’s offered despite living in western New York. This limits all providers that you can see. Those of us employed by Cole that live in western New York have essentially no access to healthcare within a reasonable distance. Providers are out of network with increases employees out of pocket costs .
