Union meeting shut down

(Contributed)
Well....tonight the union stood strong! Union wanted to do a picture for the upcoming contract. Port Allegany and Smethport police thought other wise. We were told we couldn't shine the light/sign on the tower. Then told we need to leave. This wasn't on Ardagh property. It was in the borough. I don't think people understand what the plant brings to McKean county. We make good money there, which in return the money goes back into the community! (Beers at the bar after work, the gambling at the club, the food ordered from Sheetz and Foxs.) If the plant were to lose the union, wages would be cut meaning less money spent in the community. There have already been 2 Ardagh plants shut down in the past 2 years. Support the union because they support you!!! Please share this!!!

I'm curious to know what the alleged violation was, that required law enforcement involvement. Was it a local ordinance? Why were two police agencies involved? Was it a FAA violation, because they were illuminating the tower? I certainly hope it wasn't because they were in a large group, because the 'right of the people peaceably to assemble' is protected under the 1st Amendment.

We will see all of you on the welfare line. Don’t be idiots take whatever they give you and be greatful.

Anonymous said...

All the local unions should gather there to support them

11:49 poster....Really? "Take whatever they give you"?? Sir/Mama, with all due respect, that is the STUPIST mentality....

Really? I used to work a union. I agree the constant pay raises is a little to much. But they also protect you from wrongful termination and other needed things. GO UNION!!

Opps, STUPIDEST

And thank you all for voting for the Democratic Party. We need more people in this area voting for unions and for democrats. Unions are the only true way to make America Great Again.

1:27 should give up!spelling isn' your strong suit it really showed on your second post!

Anonymous said...

11:49 so you're on welfare? Instead of bashing go down and shake all their hands and thank them for the free food, cell phone, and internet, you don't know the issues they are fighting for. Stay strong and keep sticking together!

A CEO of an auto manufacturer makes a salary equivalent to $3200 per hour. A Union worker on the assembly line at the same manufacturer makes $32 per hour to install hubcaps. Do you know what they have in common? About $65,000 dollars. Which is the price of a new work truck I cannot afford.

I'm a union worker. I also know I didnt vote for Democrats. Matter a fact I changed parties once I became a union worker. I'm making America great as well as the union.

Union or not, no employer wants to lose a good employee. If you need union protection in this day and age with all the mandated government protection for workers, take a good look at yourself.

2:28 this area is mostly Rep. and has always been. The plant has had a union for decades so quit thumping your chest over Dem. The point of the story was the Police from 2 towns had nothing better to do than break up a photo shoot. Must have been a slow night, lucky there is no drug problem, speeders etc. to worry about. Probably scared the cops, they didn't know you could shine a light like that. Hope they get to keep their vacations and insurance.

The town had better hope this plant doesn't close, the town couldn't afford to stay open. The schools, the police, the plant pays more peoples salaries beside the workers. The Boro will have to charge $1000 every 3 month for water and sewage. Shouldn't give them ideas.

Anonymous said...

Should have taken it from the grass, it belongs to the RR not the boro.

Poster 4:18 is exactly right. It isn’t 1919; it’s 2019. If you get fired for poor work performance etc it’s most likely on you.

Anonymous said...

Time for a redo and get some cop watch groups involved to record it.

The whole town is a joke no wonder I left RIP Canoe Place Inn

What it boils down to. We are afraid of loosing your plant. Quit crying and waiting for the union to do something. The police are not the issue. If us workers would sit down and listen to what the plant wants. instead of want, want. Then just maybe we might keep your jobs. The police were only doing their jobs. We all were in violation and they told us what it was and asked for us to move along till we obtained the proper way of doing things. I don't wanna take a pay cut or insurance cut but if I can keep my job I'd give a little. We loose this company it affects a lot of people. Think instead of bit$$ing people.

Unions are no good unless u have good caring people in the union that no what to do!! I worked for a union facility n was wrongfully terminated n my union help walk me out of the facility becuz I was standing up for myself with black n white proof in my hand and a doc on call for the meeting!! That's what I think about unions! Pay for protection for yrs n get shit canned with the union help!

Thanks a lot Port Allegany Police Department, when you're not eating at foxes, you come down Pearl Street on the 4th of July and let some teenagers shoot off fireworks at 11 at night and do nothing but you've got to shut down solidarity for a union. shame on you! how dare you put that on the biggest employer in this town. If that plant goes under we'll see how many cops this town needs.

11:49 - your attitude is what has helped in the growing exploitation of workers in this country.
Like attitudes support polices that reward offshoring of jobs, a disdain for American laborers, and police that act on behalf of interests instead of community.

Alot of people saying alot of things that have no idea what is or was happening. If you don't like unions, don't join one. If you are in a union, stay united and fight for what you believe is fair. It's that simple.

Get the facts before you post. Ignorance at it's finest.

Good luck with 'terminating' an employee with Very Good Reason unless it's in the hire/fire paper work. It's usually easier to lay them off and deny them unemployment benefits and then go to the unemployment hearing. Have been dealing with it for TOO TOO MANY YEARS!! When ya finally think you've got it figured out as to how to get rid of a P.O.S. the rules and regulations change. It's damn difficult for an employer to get it 'right' every time. Closing up shop was looking pretty much like the better option before TRUMP.

Unions are bad. GO TRUMP!!

Anonymous said...

Union are bad? Well I know for a fact that Trump is bad, how many people has he cheated out of money he was sued over 3,000 times for not paying. How many lies has he told in just the last 3 years 8,000/10,000. How much has his foolish trade war cost us Billions and no that money did not go into the treasury it came out of our pockets. How much did his tax cuts for the rich cost us in my case $1,000 over 25% of American got the shaft because of them and that number will grow as the time goes on. Our deficits now stand at 22 trillion and growing faster and who add the most to it? Republicans that who. The list of times that Trump has shafted the America people is far to long to put here. Union made the middle class and when they are gone so is it!! The rich own the GOP and they do their bidding and to them you are nothing.

How much of a good paying wage goes to Walmart, Amazon, online shopping, vacations outside of Pennsylvania?

Anonymous said...

Have you recently lost your job? If so, you might be wondering whether you have grounds for a wrongful termination lawsuit. In Pennsylvania, as in other states, employees work at will. This means an employee can generally be fired at any time and for any reason, or for no reason at all.

hey 12:11:00 - you're FAKE NEWS! sorry, Hillary lost. guess what, Trump is President, and you're not! we will win again. we will be champions again in 2020. it's all about THE DONALD!! MAGA

I'm wondering who called for the police...the Unions were built by the working poor and I have seen several strikes in my life. And I have also seen where a Union can be both good and bad. But the fact is that these folks who work at Ardagh just want to keep their jobs and continue to support their families. I support them and their hope that the Union can save their jobs, because the truth is that without this Plant, Port Allegany will be in a world of hurt. Wish all the employees the best

States with "employment at will" can fire anyone, at any time, for any reason, Except discrimination due to race, religion, etc. However, there is no onus of proof on the employer to be honest about the firing, so you are on your own, unless you are a member of a bargaining unit. Even then, it does not mean anything when the European companies move in. To keep our plant open, our union agreed to what amounted to a loss in take home pay of a bit more than 50%, after figuring in high premiums, etc. Hell, even my Ex-wife's lawyer conceded a net loss of 42%, and she was not on my side, and down played the damage. Our next contract was bad, etc., but, "to keep the plant open"..... Well last year the company notified us they were closing our shop. To the folks advocating take what they give you, remember, the only reason for labor laws is union activism. If you don't think that unions shutting down won't lead to rescinding those worker's protections, I have a "vintage" auto I'd like to sell you.

People love to talk when anonymous. Jamie you are correct. The mentality of take what they give and be grateful has made the country what is is today. It has taken power from the working people and made it so multi billion dollar companies can give us table scraps. The union makes it so we have rights and are able to keep a balance. We dont want to take advantage. We want a fair and just contract to have a stable future for our families and loved ones. If people cant see the importance of that then there is no help for them. STAND TOGETHER. SOLIDARITY.
SOLIDARTY.

Inflation happens. It just does. Usually around 3% a year. If your aren't getting a yearly raise tip match it you are effectively being paid less and less each year.
