Galeton Borough Town Center Master Plan - Public Meeting Scheduled

Here is where to start. Get rid of the failing dam and the shallow mud pit that some people refer to as a lake. It is a real rarity in America, a dam that provides the opposite of flood protection. It actally makes flooding worse. Just ask the Galeton School District about the tax increase because that stupid dam requires them to get more flood insurance. How much are the people of Galeton willing to pay in higher taxes to fix the dam which is owned by the borough? Don't forget all of the dam maintainance and the higher flood insurance rates. The town water system and sewer system are falling apart. And the dyke or levee as they call it is also failing. Who is going to pay for all those projects in addition to the dam project? Lets deal with reality instead of some dream that a few government people are trying to sell us.

They talk about a vision. Why don't they put all that money (did that study really cost $250 thousand taxpayer's dollars?) into this rediculous town center plan. What about all the empty buildings on Main Street. Main Street is a joke in this town. A really bad joke. Who thought tourists would stop in all those parking spaces to take a look at a pond? Good thing it is just a vision because it sure as hell should not be a reality.

Wat kind of RECREATION? What a joke. I grew up in Galeton when the two tributaries ran together. Beautiful clear water when you could see native trout, be able to fish, wade or swim in the summer, ice skate in the winter. Now Galeton has become an actual ghost town with no good paying industries people on fixed incomes trying to pay high taxes while so many others are unemployed living on HUD and don't pay taxes. Where will all this money come from? Galeton residents cannot afford it. As far as taxes are concerned, people living rurally but still in the school district keep getting higher taxes which are difficult if they are on a fixed income. Big deal people come for the annual fireworks. Who benefits from that. Not even the local merchants. A lot of them bring their own food and drink. A one day deal for nothing. Get rid of the dam!!!Save the tax payers money or put it to better use. I am furious over this long ordeal which is ridiculous Wise up and see it for what it is or should I say isn't. Good luck Galeton to get the buck.
