Man, Accused of Assault, Dies In Crash Seconds Into Police Pursuit By Bradford Police

On 04/04/2019 at 2245 hours the City of Bradford Police were dispatched to an active assault in front of 19 Mechanic Street.

Officers were advised by the 911 caller that the actor had just assaulted two females possibly breaking the nose of one of the victims and had fled the scene in his vehicle. While on scene gathering further information regarding the incident the suspect was observed turning from East Washington Street on to Mechanic Street heading south at a high rate of speed. Officers were also advised that the suspect was highly intoxicated.

Officers activated their emergency lighting in an attempt to stop the suspect on South Avenue at the intersection of West Corydon Street for suspicion of assault and driving while intoxicated as well as reckless driving.

The suspect turned right onto West Corydon Street failing to yield to the emergency lights and sirens. The suspect continued to accelerate in an attempt to flee the patrol units.

Approximately 45 seconds into the pursuit the suspect’s vehicle collided with an SUV in the two hundred block of West Corydon Street. After the impact with the SUV, the suspect’s vehicle continued travelling in a south west direction making an additional impact with an embankment on the South side of West Corydon Street where it came to a rest.

The suspect was subsequently transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center where he died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The motor vehicle accident is being handled by the Bradford Township police Department and is still under investigation. They were assisted at the scene by the Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department, City of Bradford EMS, and McKean County Coroner’s Office.

The suspects’ name is not being released pending family notification. Source: City of Bradford Police Department

Let's see how far this gets described in the papers given the likelihood of a lawsuit against the city by the innocent driver of the 2nd vehicle...

Police chases are too dangerous for innocent citizens. Many people are killed by the criminal driver or the police car. They knew who he was; no need to chase. Illegal in many states and cities. Where I live, a family of 6 was killed by a man running a red light while trying to elude the police.

RE: 4:13 PM

I'm 1:53PM and am not blaming the police. I AM saying when You know who the perp is there is no need to get in a high speed chase and endanger the public that You are supposedly protecting..
