Detour Starts Tuesday on Bridge Job near Mt Jewett

Work to replace a bridge spanning Kane Creek has been underway since mid-April. With roadway widening and drainage work complete, a detour for Lindholm Road/ Lower Lindholm Road will go into effect on Tuesday, May 14, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

The bridge is located on Route 6 approximately a one mile east of Mount Jewett in Hamlin Township, McKean County. Replacing it will allow PennDOT to remove the structure from McKean County’s list of bridges in poor condition. The existing bridge dates from 1924.

On Tuesday, Lindholm Road will be closed at the intersection with Route 6, and a detour will be in effect. The detour will follow Route 3011 (Bridge Street/Berg Lane) for two miles before returning to Route 6 in Mt Jewett. The detour will be in place through the remainder of the project, which is expected to be complete in early September.

Route 6 will remain open to traffic, with reduced lane width of 11 feet eastbound and westbound in the construction zone. An average of more than 2,100 vehicles move through this area daily.

The bridge is being replaced using half-width phasing. Overall project work includes replacement of the bridge, approach paving. guiderail installation, pavement markings, and miscellaneous construction. Bob Cummins Construction Co. of Bradford is the contractor for this $1.2 million job.

PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in and around work zones, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
