At 7:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15 at the Clark Wood Elementary School Auditorium at 110 Addison Hill Road in Elkland, public performances of the Disney musical "The Little Mermaid" will be presented by the 74 third through ninth graders attending Hamilton-Gibson's Summer Theatre Arts Camp. Admission at the door is Pay-What-You-Can.

"The Little Mermaid" is based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, and the animated Disney film of the same name. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable features irresistible songs, such as "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."

The show is about Ariel, a 16-year-old mermaid with a beautiful singing voice who lives in an enchanted undersea country. She is King Triton's youngest daughter, a passionate, headstrong teenager who wants what she cannot have -- to live on land. When she falls in love with the handsome, human Prince Eric in the world above, Ariel is more determined than ever to gain a pair of legs. But her only option is to defy her furious father and bargain with Ursula the Sea Witch, giving her voice as the price of entry onto dry land. The bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to wordlessly gain Prince Eric's love within three days -- or lose her soul to the ambitious witch.

Sponsoring the camp is the Deerfield Charitable Trust and Xtreme Internet. Call the HG office at 570-724-2079 for more information.
