Bridge Replacement to Start Soon on Route 321

Work to replace a metal arch pipe on Route 321 in Whetmore Township will get underway late this month, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The structure will be closed on July 29 and a lengthy detour will be in place. Replacing the bridge will eliminate it from the list of McKean County bridges in poor condition.

The 13-foot bridge spans Five Mile Run about three miles north of Kane. This structure dates from 1966 and carries an average of almost 900 vehicles each day.

The official 40-mile detour will direct drivers to use Route 6, Route 219, and Route 59. Motorists familiar with the area may choose alternate routes.

The metal arch pipe will be replaced with a new precast reinforced concrete box culvert, with an expected completion date of August 22. Should work progress allow, PennDOT will open the new bridge and lift the detour earlier.

Overall work on the project includes removal of the existing metal arch pipe, placement of the new box culvert, approach paving, guide rail updates, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items.

Francis J. Palo, Inc. of Clarion, PA is the contractor on this $542,000 project.

PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in and around work zones, follow official detour signs, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.

PennDOT encourages drivers to “Know before they go” and to check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA is free, available 24 hours a day, and provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 950 traffic cameras.

If Palo is doing it you can more than double the expected completion time! This company is extremely SLOW! They are still on the job in the S-turns in Kane. Every day something new.... pave it dig it back up.... put down a manhole cover and next day dig it back up? And they never remove the flagger ahead or one lane closed ahead signs at the completion of the work day! Definitely not impressed with this company

Aug 22 of what year? Those guys are terrible. Rode through town literally shooting hay out of a machine (which buried sidewalks and made a gigantic mess) rather than placing it down by hand to cover the grass seed.

Ambulance n fire depts are very concerned about this because they can not get access to local residents n to go all away around will be life threatening. Pretty sad when Wetmore Twp nor the ambulance knew nothing about this. Busiest time of the year for this road - praying it is done by Labor Day. No reason why they can not do one section at a time and still let traffic thru just like everywhere else in the county.

Totally agree 11:04, but it’s Palo Construction, so expect the most unreasonable approach to the job.

"N" is a letter, not a word. It's and that you wish to use. And you should have used through, not thru.
