ARCHERY FESTIVAL TO RETURN TO POTTER COUNTY AUG. 15-18, 2019

The Potter County Bowhunter Festival will once again be held at the Denton Hill State Park. In its 36th consecutive year, the PCBF will offer realistic hunting scenarios for archers of all ages.

The PCBF is an event that has always been operated for the purpose of educating bowhunters and providing opportunities for them to get ready for the upcoming archery deer season. The event is held on 750 acres and attracts 1200 to 1500 shooters as well as spectators. It has 8 field courses of 3-D animals in situations that are often encountered when bow hunting. Some of the shots are from elevated platforms but most are from ground level. Participants can expect to find some shots from a sitting position, some with only half of the animal’s vitals exposed, and some with vegetation in the arch of the arrow, making situational awareness a must. Practicing on our wooded courses is a great way to prepare for the upcoming hunting season.

Traditionally, many of the attendees take advantage of the onsite camping facilities and bring along their families. Consequently, many of the events are kid-oriented. There is a special kids' range with deer, bear and some “monster” targets like a red toad and alligator. The kid’s field course is fun for kids wanting to shoot foam snakes and skunks. Each day the staff sets up a balloon shoot just for kids.

There are two competitive events held at the PCBF each year. The King of the Mountain, in its 13th year, is a competitive event held on a course of about 30 targets. It takes place on Friday and Saturday with a final shoot-off on Sunday. There is also a Sharp Shooter event that results in the winner taking home half of the entry fees collected. The other half of the fees goes to help wounded vets. The Sharp Shooter event also includes a free kids’ competition, with 3D target prizes. This fundraising event annually raised money for LEEK, a local Wounded Warrior organization that provides no cost hunting and fishing opportunities for our wounded Vets.

The Potter County Bowhunter Festival will have a coon shoot, lighted targets, archery dealers, target dealers, clothing vendors, food vendors and hot showers for campers. It is open for compound and traditional bows. The PCBF will be held Aug 15-18, 2019 at the Denton Hill State Park which is located on Rt 6, midway between Galeton and Coudersport, Pa.
