University of Pittsburgh at Bradford writing program alumni Jamie Lackey ’06 and Paul Stefko ’06 will talk about their writing Oct. 2 at Pitt-Bradford.

The talks by Lackey, a fantasy writer, and Stefko, a game designer, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons. It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

“Jamie and Paul were two of our best students and both served as editors of Baily’s Beads (literary magazine),” said Dr. Nancy McCabe, professor of writing and director of the writing program.

“It’s been a joy to see Jamie’s writing develop over the years and to see the directions that Paul has taken his creative skills. We have a lot of students who are interested in speculative fiction and game design, and I know that Jamie and Paul will be both inspiring and offer practical tips for succeeding in those areas.”

Lackey has had more than 150 short stories published in places like Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Apex Magazine and Escape Pod.

Her fiction has also appeared on the Best Horror of the Year Honorable Mention List and Tangent Online Recommended Reading List.

Her debut novel, “Left-Hand Gods,” is available from Hadley Rille Books, and her two short story collections are available from Air and Nothingness Press.

She ran two successful Kickstarter campaigns to self-publish a novella and a collection of flash fiction.

Stefko is a designer of role-playing games, developer, writer, and game design consultant working in Pittsburgh. He has written for several game publishers, including Evil Hat Productions, Atlas Games, Pelgrane Press, and Steve Jackson Games.

He also publishes his own games and game supplements under his imprint, Nothing Ventured Games.

His supplement, It’s Element-Ary!, was nominated for an Ennie Award for Best Family Game in 2016, and he contributed to the multiple-Ennie-nominated RPG TimeWatch in 2017.
