The second annual Headley’s Headliners and More! will take place Saturday, April 4th at the Port Allegany United Methodist Church located at 307 North Main Street in Port Allegany. Proceeds will fund The Pastor Randy Headley Memorial Award for Community Service to be presented to students at PAHS (grades 7 - 12) during the Awards Assembly in May.

The event will feature entertainment by “Headley’s Headliners” ….and more including a bucket auction, baked food sale, 50/50 raffle and lottery frame raffle. There will also be a Photography Contest with cash prizes. Friends of Pastor Randy are sponsoring the event along with the Port Allegany Rotary Club.

The committee is looking for donations for the bucket auction, bake sale and volunteer workers for set up on Friday, April 3rd as well as the day of the event.

A 5K walk/run will be added this year.

More details will be announced as they become available.

Pastor Randy graduated from Kiski Area High school in Vandergrift, Class of 1966. He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and Duke Divinity School at Duke University. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968-1972 obtaining the rank of Sergeant.

Before becoming a pastor, Pastor Randy was employed in Sales, both retail and direct for many years. “I have always been in sales, I just have a better “product” now,” he said. He entered the ministry in 1991 in Shinglehouse and served United Methodist Churches in Shinglehouse, Ceres, Trinity (now Port Allegany UMC) Port Allegany Evangelical UMC (now closed), Crosby, Riverside and Fishing Creek, all in the Kane District of the UMC.

His hobbies included hunting, sports and reading, but mostly Rev. Headley enjoyed being with people.

Pastor Randy’s memberships include Western PA Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany Ministerium, having served as president for many years, Community Health Advisors Committee of the Cole Memorial Health System, Port Allegany American Legion Post #258, Board of Directors of the Veterans Memorial, Inc., NRA and AARP.

He had served on the Board of Directors of the Cole Memorial Health System (also served on Executive, Patient Safety, Public Relations and Voluntary Chaplains Committee) and was named an Honorary Director of the Board at Cole Memorial at the 2016 Annual Meeting. He was a former member of the Port Allegany Rotary Club where he served as President and was named a Paul Harris Fellow, twice. He also served as a board member of the Port Allegany Ambulance Service, Port Allegany Borough Council, Economic Development Council and Port Allegany Asbestos Advisory Council.

Some of the highlights of his 15 years of service in Port Allegany were serving Port Allegany and Crosby churches from 2002 until the Evangelical UMC was added to the Port Allegany Area Charge; the merger of Port Allegany and Evan congregations in 2005 after the closing of the Evan Church; the sale of the Evan building and property to the Port Allegany Library Board and the building of the new library on that site; the addition of the Riverside an Fishing Creek UMCs to the newly created Allegany Headwaters Charge (Port Allegany Crosby, Fishing Creek and Riverside UMCs) in 2014.

His pastoral duties during his 15 years at Port UMC and surrounding areas included 55 baptisms, 98 weddings and 276 funerals.

Rev. Headley’s family included his wife Barb; three daughters - Nicole (Steve) Fowler, Jaclyn (Aaron) Pearsall, and Jenn (Dave) Norton; two sons - Howard Wheeler and Justin (Jessica) Wheeler; four grandsons and nine granddaughters.

Pastor Randy’s plans for retirement were to “continue serving my Lord as he directs me,”and to enjoy the “good life” in the community that “was my first choice to retire in and where I have so very many friends.”

Sadly, Pastor Randy passed away in November 2018. Pastor Randy loved serving his church and community and loved spending time with and supporting the youth of our community. To help keep his memory alive and to encourage more youth involvement in community service, The Pastor Randy Headley Memorial Award for Community Service will be given to students at Port Allegany High School. Applications will be distributed through the school. To apply, students will need to complete a form with their volunteer history of service to their school/community/church. A committee will select the recipients.
