Wolf Budget Price Tag Too High

Before a joint session of the General Assembly on Tuesday, Gov. Tom Wolf unveiled his 2020-21 state budget with a price tag of more than $36 billion, an increase of $2 billion over the current year’s enacted budget. It includes nearly $1 billion in overspending from the current year’s budget and proposed borrowing of nearly $5 billion.

This is way too high a price to pay for our employers and taxpayers who are working hard to support their families. We need a fiscally responsible budget that respects the people who foot the bill today and in the future.

The governor continues to call for new government programs, seeking to fund those at the expense of existing programs that have already proven their value. Once again, the governor has targeted the agriculture industry that he claims to support with more than $4.3 million in cuts. He eliminated funding for hardwoods research and promotion, livestock and consumer health protection, and the Animal Health and Diagnostic Commission, just to name a few. As chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, I am committed to restoring these vital funds before considering funding for any additional initiatives.

It’s important to recognize this governor’s budget is nothing more than a proposal that serves as the start of the annual budget negotiation process. Later this month, the House and Senate Appropriations committees will delve into the details of the proposal to identify true needs and opportunities to save taxpayer money. I look forward to a final budget that will best meet the needs of rural Pennsylvania.

In his speech before the General Assembly on Tuesday, which is supposed to be focused on his state spending proposals, Gov. Tom Wolf spent several minutes calling on lawmakers to enact new gun control measures. This is my reaction to his proposals.

Rep. Clint Owlett and I are inviting area farmers and others in the agriculture industry to a breakfast meeting with Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding on Friday, March 13, at 9 a.m. at Pine Creek Inn, 1637 Route 6 West, Galeton.

This is a great opportunity for our local farmers and producers to learn more about what’s being done to support the industry in Harrisburg, and to share your concerns for the future with us and our state Agriculture secretary. We encourage everyone involved in the industry, from crop and livestock farmers to timber and maple syrup producers, to join us.

To ensure adequate space and food are available, people who wish to attend the breakfast should be sure to RSVP by contacting my Coudersport office at 814-274-9769 or registering online at

There is no charge to attend.

Anti-Human-Trafficking Initiative Signed into Law

One of several human trafficking bills championed in the House last month was signed into law this week.

Senate Bill 60 is designed to better protect victims of human trafficking and ensure justice is served by imposing stricter penalties on criminals involved in this heinous crime.

The new law raises the grading of the offense to a first-degree felony and imposes increased fines and jail time. Specifically, the law will raise the additional fine amount to at least $1,000 for a first offense and as much as $50,000 for a third or subsequent offense or where the victim of sexual servitude was a minor at the time of the offense. Jail time could be as much as 20-40 years.

One thing about Causer he will never do anything to help protect our children from gun violence. There are many common sense thing that can be done without causing to much inconvenience for gun owner. Sadly some people care more about there gun than about kids lives.

... and Causer is just like Trumped - always showing how wonderful he is and how much he's doing for the area and always going here and there and always wearing a suit to show he's just like Trumped and his black cloak flapping in the wind and his ties down to his knees - for instance...and telling everyone he is the Savior of the United States and... Well, you get the point!

We need Ukraine and China to do us a favor and investigate Gov. Wolf. One tweet from Trump and it will happen. He's allowed to ask now, as long as it helps his re-election. It would be a win-win for Republicans!

You liberals can't see anything but hate with your garbage filled rants ! These two reps do more for our area than you will ever imagine doing in your best drug induced dreams ! And Trump has done more good in 3 years than obuma did in 8 ! TRUMP 2020 !

Speaker Pelosi said...

8:55 relax and put your tiki torch down, we can all see that you’re lost and sadly no matter how many ‘garbage rants’ aka -truths- you are shown, you will choose to be gaslit by the criminal in Chief. Name one piece of legislation he has signed that you have benefited from? Name one action he has taken in his life that has benefited anyone other than himself. Name one speech he has given that has inspired you. Give me one example of him showing any single basic human emotion like compassion, humbleness, generosity, etc.
