Westfield police chief puts down the cuffs and lends an ear to a veteran in need

WESTFIELD, Pa. (WETM) – Instead of making an arrest, the Westfield Borough Police Chief decided to sit down and talk with a veteran with nowhere to go.

Chief Dale Niles was called to a mental health crisis two days ago at the Colonial Restaurant.

“[The owner had] asked him multiple times to leave and he wouldn’t leave,” said Niles. “So finally she told him she’d call the police and have him removed. At that point, he did leave. I went off and I made contact with her and she didn’t want him arrested or anything. Throughout that day, I had made contact with him multiple times trying to urge him to move along.” Read more...

Smells like bullshit. Just trying to get his name to go viral. Should have gone and helped him from the start. Now they will stuff pills down gis throat till he passes away.

Since then, Jimmy was re-admitted to a recovery center and is receiving treatment.
Not always a good thing. A lot of the VA help consists of just throwing a lot of drugs at the individual, and nothing more, it's the soul that needs healed, and that only comes from one source; and that source is not man.

The last time I looked, we were losing about 22 souls everyday, payment for supporting a foreign evil.

God Bless the two of you. So many of our veterans do not meet people like you on their path through life. Prayers for Jimmy.

Thank you for taking the time to listen. You did your part as a public servant and a human being. Now it is up to the VA to do their part and not just throw meds at the patient like the above said.

Hats off to that officer. With all the hate and judgement in the world today glad to see people treating a situation with a cool head and a kind heart. Keep being head and shoulder above the hate in the world.

No we just don't live in a fairytale like you do 12:57. You and 12:32 must be those don't see it happening nothings wrong type of special people. He didn't walk up and lend an ear it clearly says "Throughout that day, I had made contact with him multiple times trying to urge him to move along.” Why didn't he handle the situation the first time contacted instead of him just shooing him away like a bird. Only reason the lady gave him a room is that she felt like crap once she found out he was a vet and knew the cop would just lock him up. Why don't you educate yourself a little next time before you name call 12:57. 22 vets a day commit suicide that's a fact and all them pills don't do shit.

This reminds me of Donald Trump. Nobody knows more about serving our country and what veterans go through than President Trump.
