Star Hose Technical Rescue Team, Mutual Aid Entricate Male Who Fell Into Deep Ditch

 Star Hose Company #1

The Star Hose Company’s Technical Rescue Team was called into service again this afternoon when units from PAFD and Port Area Ambulance Service were dispatched for a trench rescue in Liberty Township.

The Rescue Company, Squad 3, and Utility 3 with the Collapse Trailer responded within minutes and arrived to find a male patient who had fallen into a trench and partially buried by debris and water.

Command requested an additional Squad from Roulette Chemical Engine #1, a medical helicopter and an Engine from Eldred Boro for the landing zone, as well as an additional ambulance.

Crews began several tasks simultaneously, placing trench shoring to protect from additional collapses, rigging rope systems, and evacuating water and dirt from the trench. Once a safe work area was established, Rescue Technicians entered the trench and packaged the patient for removal.

After working for about 90 minutes, the patient was extricated from the trench and transported to the awaiting helicopter by Phoenix Ambulance.

This is the second story in the past week, about the amazing work that this group does, and the special services they provide, over and above that of a typical small town fire department. We’re truly blessed to have such an amazing group of dedicated highly trained volunteers in our small community! Outstanding work guys!

Great job by all those involved. Thank you to the volunteers who continually take time out of their schedules and away from their families for extensive training and helping those in need. Our small town Fire Companies are priceless and I hope we can keep them going. Wonderful job by all!
