(KERSEY, PA) - Democratic activists from all over western Pennsylvania gathered at the Elk County Fairgrounds in Kersey this past weekend for two days of networking, learning and celebration at the third bi-annual Demstock 2021 event. Over the weekend, close to 200 activists from rural counties heard from Democratic leaders and candidates, including Senator Bob Casey, Lt. Governor John Fetterman, Congressman Conor Lamb, four candidates for Pennsylvania appeals courts, a candidate for Congress and a Butler County Commissioner.

The event stretched over August 20 and 21 and included a Friday night campfire fundraiser for six young Democrats running for municipal and county level offices across Western PA this year and Saturday afternoon workshops on issues, policy and campaign techniques.In addition, close to a dozen advocacy groups, municipal Democratic committees and county Democratic committees set up tables in the one of the two exhibit halls at the fair, sharing information about their organization and its mission.

Walter Edward Roberts, 93, of Covina, Calif., formerly of Bradford, PA

Walter Edward Roberts

Walter Edward Roberts, 93, of Covina, Calif., formerly of Bradford, PA went to be with the Lord on Dec. 7, 2020 in San Dimas, Calif. 

He was born on Aug. 28, 1927, in Bradford, a son of the late Walter and Ann Roberts.  

WWII Air Core Veteran

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II; where he served in Germany.  

He retired from Southern Con Edison as an auditor.  

Walter had so much love for his family and friends. What he enjoyed was out flying model airplanes.  

He touched so many hearts in his life. Walter will always be in our hearts. 

Walter is survived by his beloved sons, Randolph and Mark; one sister Rita Costello; one grandchild; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. There are many other family members and close friends who are going to miss him dearly. 

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie and one brother, George Roberts. Burial was in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif. 

May Walter Edward Roberts rest in peace with the Lord.

“light of everyone’s life” 

Halie M. Little, 22, of Port Allegany, formerly of Austin, PA, passed away unexpectedly at UPMC Cole, Coudersport, on Thursday, August 26, 2021.     

Born on Wednesday, September 16, 1998 in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Douglas G. and Carey J. Kinard Little.     

Halie was a graduate of Austin High School, Class of 2017 and was currently attending Northern Pennsylvania Regional College for early childhood education.       

A hard worker, Halie was previously employed by UPMC Cole in Coudersport as a CNA and at the Keating Summit Hotel in Keating Summit..  At the time of her passing, she was employed as an assistant teacher for Northern Tier Headstart Program in Port Allegany.       

She enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Halie loved camping, gardening, shopping, and her dogs.  She also loved building her farm, including raising her many chickens.  Her greatest loves were her family, her beloved Tristan, the children she helped teach and the elderly she care for at the hospital.     

Her care for all was all encompassing in her life as it was also at her passing, as Halie was graciously an organ donor.     

Left to cherish her memory are her parents of Austin; the love of her life, Tristan P. Evens of Port Allegany; a sister, Racheal A. (Tod Streich) Glover of St. Marys; her nephew, Wesson Streich, who she loved, adored, and spoiled; her maternal grandparents, Janice and Art Albright of Dallastown; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.     

Halie was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Dave and Connie Bock; and her maternal grandfather, Greg Kinard.    

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life for Halie at the Keating Summit Hotel, 9839 PA 155, Austin, Pa., from 3pm to 8pm on Thursday, September 2, 2021.  At 6:30pm, Halie’s uncle, the Rev. Donald R. Caskey, co-pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Coudersport, will lead a time of sharing.  Please bring your memories to share.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Halie’s name may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to a SPCA of the donor’s choice.      

Halie’s family has entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.

Dan M. Slade, Sr., 87, of Denver, North Carolina, formerly of Smethport, Pennsylvania and Buffalo, New York, died Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Lincolnton Rehabilitation Center, Lincolnton, North Carolina. 

Born November 21, 1933 in Smethport, he was the son of Gerald and Leila Daley Slade. 

Dan was employed for many years by the Ford Motor Company in Buffalo. 

Survivors include: three sons, Dan Slade, Jr. of Buffalo, New York, Gary (Faye) Slade of Denver, NC, and Tom Slade of Nunda, NY; and also sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 29 from 6-8 p.m. in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium where Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 30, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Horton of the First Baptist Church in Emporium officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium. 

Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

United Way 23rd Annual Pig Roast Next Week in Bradford, PA

August 27, 2021— Staff and volunteers have been prepping for a few months for the United Way of the Bradford Area’s main special event, the 23rd annual Pig Roast/Clam Bake, which is coming up on Thursday, September 2nd beginning at 5:00 pm at the Bradford Township Lions Club.

The event serves as the celebratory kick-off for the United Way’s annual campaign, and is again being presented by Northwest Bank.

“This is the 23rd anniversary of our event, and we’re so appreciative of all of the hands that have been part in making it so successful year after year,” said Executive Director, Sarah Lonzi.  “Everyone from our volunteers to our sponsors to our vendors to the guests, we cannot thank you all enough for keeping this around for two decades!”

 NEW YORK (WKBW) — The New York State Department of Health has filed an emergency regulation that will require all students, faculty, and staff for all public and private schools in New York State to wear masks inside school buildings.

This comes after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul directed the health department on her first day of office on Tuesday to implement a universal mask mandate in all schools.

 Joyce D. Olson, age 90, of Alpine St., Ridgway, PA died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at her residence. 

She was born May 12, 1931, in Ridgway, daughter of the late George F. and Lillian M. (Amacher) Dahler.  She married David A. Olson on October 18, 1952, he preceded her in death on September 21, 1991.  She resided in Ridgway all of her life.  

She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, was President of the congregation for 15 years, Recording Secretary from 1952-1977, and served on consistory for many years.  Joyce was an expert seamstress.  

She loved to garden, dried her own flowers and made her own arrangements.  She enjoyed baking and made beautiful birthday cakes for everyone in the family.  She was a 1949 graduate of Ridgway High School and a graduate of Cosmetology School in DuBois.

 She is survived by a daughter Nancy O. (David) Thompson of Ridgway, 2 grandchildren Katie A. Thompson of Ridgway and William D. Thompson of Ridgway, a sister Jean D. (James) Andrus of Walhalla, SC, and several nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother William J. Dahler.

 Funeral and Committal Services for Joyce D. Olson will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Faith United Church of Christ.  Officiating will be Paul Reed, Lay Minister.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.  There will be no visitation.  

Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Ridgway Public Library or to Faith United Church of Christ.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.  Share your online condolences at

PennDOT Places Speed Display Board in McKean County

Kane, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) placed a radar-controlled speed display board on Route 321 at the border between Kane Borough and Wetmore Township in McKean County yesterday to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limit. 

The board will aid in curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving behavior.

Richard E. Kline, Sr., 80, of Coudersport, PA, died peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the Lutheran Home at Topton. 

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Earl K. and E. Mae (Newhard) Kline. 

He was a graduate of William Allen High School, Class of 1958. Richard was a plumber by trade working for the Local 690 out of Philadelphia for 32 years until retiring in 1990. 

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Richard enjoyed shooting pool, playing rugby and softball. His family remembers him for the love he had of all things outdoors, but most of all the love he had for family and his friends.

Survivors: Children, Richard E. Kline, Jr., Audrey A Walter and her husband Gary, Michele L. Kline, Billie B. Greiss and her husband Dennis, Jon A. Skipper and Amy E. Cozze; Grandchildren, Miranda, Erik, Stephanie, Tyler, Ben, Mitch, Emmalee, Chelsey, Joshua, Keith, Jacob and Koen; Great-Grandchildren, Willow, Rowan and Sophie; and former Wife, Charlotte R. Wallace.
