County Line 4-H newsletter

Natale with rib cage and skinny animal. Roaslie has the good weight animal and Maeson (Me) with the fat animal.

Here is the County Line 4-H newsletter. My name is Maeson Redmond and I will be keeping you updated on our news.

Our 4-H meeting on Sunday, January 16th. Our next meeting will be Sunday, January 30.

Rosalie, Natale and I were at the meeting. Melissa and Ruth were there because they had to be. It is required for them to be there because that is what leaders do. Of course Grayce was there because she is my baby sister. Rosalie had her brother join us too. I hope he will join 4-H.

I worked really hard and long hours to make the skeletons for the learning project. Mom was teaching us about body condition. I had to make sure they bent in the middle and looked like a rib cage. I used wooden dowels and lots and lots of hot glue. Mom casted slides about body condition in bunnies, cows, sheep, goats and pigs on the tv. We learned about how to judge and tell the size of the animal.

Each kid got a rib cage. We had a piece of fabric representing skin, another fabric represented muscle and another fabric representing fat.

One piece of fabric on my fine made rib cage demonstrated a skinny animal. It needs better care, maybe parasites or old age. You can really see the ribs.

Then we put on another one one representing skin and muscle. That is the perfect weight. You can’t hardly see the ribs but can feel them.

Lastly we did the fat animal. It needs less feed and more exercise. We placed muscle, fat, and skin on our rib cage. We couldn’t feel or see the ribs. You guessed it. It needs to be on a diet.

I forgot the first thing we did was the kids played and the adults got all of the kids signed up for 4-H. That was our meeting and I hope to see everyone at the next meeting. Remember it is not too late to join 4-H. Please see the picture of our learning project.
