Christopher C. McGonnell, 70, of The Pines Healthcare & Rehab Facility of Olean, NY

Christopher C. McGonnell

Christopher C. McGonnell, 70, of The Pines Healthcare & Rehab Facility of Olean, NY, passed away on July 29, 222.

Born September 5, 1951 and raised in Eldred, PA he was the son of the late Fenton II and Carolyne McGonnell.

He is a 1969 graduate of Walsh High School. In the fall of 1969 he attended Lock Haven University. After sustaining a broken neck in a tragic accident on campus, he was rendered a quadriplegic and remained so for 52 years.

In time, through lengthy treatment and rehabilitation, he regained limited movement of his arms and head. His mind and spirit were never broken and at the age of  38, through encouragement and support, he enrolled in Edinboro University. Edinboro was one of a handful of universities in the country at the time that had special accommodations and supporting programs for physically challenged students. In 1995 he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.

For the majority of his life he remained at home under the loving care of his parents (with help from his siblings), and in later years his brother, Jim, took over his care enabling him to remain at home. He enjoyed listening to the opera, books on tape, and watching his favorite teams, the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. He kept in touch with his friends and family via social media and played online games through his voice-activated computer.  He never lost his quick wit or sense of humor.

Chris is survived by three brothers, Fenton III (Deborah) of Durham, NC, James (Kathy) and Mark (Joan) of Olean and one sister, Roberta Stephan (Fred Bailey) of Olean; nieces Rhonda (Sean) McBoz, Katie McGonnell, Carolyne (Brian) Francis, Beth (Steven) Kalafatich and Kara (Jason) Miller and nephews, Kevin and Kurtis McGonnell and Phillip and Paul (Erin) Stephan and several great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Carolyne (1982), Fenton II, (2009) and niece Kelley Lash (2022).

At his request there will be no services. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Eulalia Cemetery, Coudersport, PA. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Pines Healthcare Facility over the past 8 years.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Chris to the Olean Public Library 134 N. 2nd St. Olean, NY 14760.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Frame Funeral Home, 230 Main St. Eldred, PA.

Jorge Jefferds is the Potter County Artisan of the week.

Jorge Jefferds is the Potter County Artisan of the week. Jorge is a professional translator was born in Chile in 1971. He is proficient in Spanish and German and translates  up to 3,000 words a day in the combinations German to English, Spanish to English. He has worked for mining companies, drug manufacturers, legal offices, and public organizations.

He discovered his passion for literature in an early stage of his childhood. "I remember that a friend of mine, who lived next door, owned a collection of fairy tales with beautiful illustrations. The books were so magic, that being his friend was the excuse to read them."

He started to write, however, only a couple of years before he moved to the United States in 2012. He published his first novel called "Paradise-Ville, Volume One: Sanctuary of Death," in 2014. Paradise-Ville is a town like many others. The residents know each other, are somewhat related, and struggle to revive their past bringing prosperity through amazing tourist attractions. The curse of their lives will turn, however, to a dramatic endless nightmare. The disappearance of their children and unexpected killings bring questions nobody can answer. Suspicions fly towards themselves, but with little evidence. Tom Gessling is a teenager, whose family is one of the former pioneers in setting the town foundations. His dreams of the victims telling him where they are and who killed them encourage him to provide help. Is he really going to succeed the police and the FBI as the hero, who will finally discover their whereabouts? “Clearance  For Messier 31” Pardise-Ville, volume 2 in the series is about Where Outer Forces faded Visions of the Uncertainty. Gessling now counts with a sudden increasing support of the head of the Paradise-Ville Police Department, Lieutenant Snyder and his friend FBI agent Allen. While the paranormal dreams turn livelier in his mind every day, several residents start to report bizarre and almost supernatural encounters. Both books are available at the Potter County Artisan Co-op, 227 N. Main Street, Coudersport, PA, open 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Saturday. K9 Rigby Has Been Hard At Work

District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that McKean County Detectives’ Bureau K9 Rigby has been hard at work training to detect narcotics in McKean County.  He and Officer Dakota Eaton have been training over the last several months to get ready to work across the county with the McKean County Drug Task Force.

He will also work closely with Duke, Bradford City’s new K9, as well as with all police departments in the county during drug investigations.

DA Shaffer stressed the importance of having K9s in McKean County:

The K9 Unit of the McKean County Detectives’ Bureau consists of drug-detecting dogs Rigby and LG, explosives-detecting dog Nico, and tracking dogs Dutchess, Izzy, Dixie and Roxy.

In addition to their work in the field, the dogs will appear at public events where they will interact with children. The District Attorney’s Anti-Drug Campaign directed at children to “Say No to Drugs” will include appearances of all the K9s at schools and events. The County Detectives’ Bureau K9 Unit as well as Bradford City K9 Duke will appear at schools and other events as part of the campaign. The dogs remind children to stay away from drugs along with a message that police officers are their friends.

In addition to drug detection and community events, the K9 Unit of the County Detectives’ Bureau do safety searches of schools and prisons to look for drugs or explosives and track the scent of missing people – whether a missing child or a fleeing suspect.

District Attorney Shaffer expressed her thanks to the public for their support of the K9 Unit with the County Detectives’ Bureau.  The K9 Unit will be primarily funded by donations to off-set the expenses of the K9s.  If you would like to donate to the McKean County Detectives’ K9 Unit, please make checks payable to McKean County K9 Unit, District Attorney’s Office, Smethport, PA  16749.

If you are interested in having the dogs at your event, please contact the District Attorney’s Office at (814) 887-3312.
